lthough Las Vegas does not have any major league sports teams, which have been banned to effectively avoid any illegal sports betting, which would reduce Las Vegas’ entertainment revenue; top level events have been permitted if the event was a temporary one. This has left sporting events limited in Las Vegas. Las Vegas has been host to the NBA All-Star Game in 2007 as well as The ‘NASCAR’ Sprint Cup series along with several professional boxing and wrestling matches.

One of the biggest problems for any major league sports team in Las Vegas is that there are no proper sports facilities located in the Las Vegas area. The current stadiums available in Las Vegas are the Sam Boyd Stadium, the Thomas & Mack Center, MGM Grand Garden Arena, and Cashman Field. All of which are not appropriate for hosting any professional sports team.

Additionally, there is no major sports team in Las Vegas is because all major professional sports leagues have tough anti-gambling policies, which ban their players and other personnel from gambling. Las Vegas being the gambling capital of the U.S. makes this policy hard to enforce and doubts between legal and illegal gambling make Las Vegas a somewhat inappropriate location for any permanent sports team.

Although there remains no major league sports team in Las Vegas, sports fans can still find plenty to do in Vegas that is sports related. See a favorite game on a projection screen at a local bar or take lessons for a unique sport, for example.


BOXING IN LAS VEGAS

Occassionally major boxing matches are scheduled for Las Vegas. However, these are temporary events and sell out quickly. Tgese can often be viewed for a charge on pay per view television, for those outside of the Las Vegas area or those who did not purchase event tickets ahead of the scheduled boxing events.The lack of any permanant boxing events does not leave Las Vegas boxing alternatives. Several boxing gyns and schools are available throughout Las Vegas.

There have been a few connections made with some of the city of Las Vegas officials and a number of MLB (Major League Baseball) owners concerning relocation to Las Vegas.
