Activities for kids in Las Vegas

ost Las Vegas shows are not designed for family viewing, hence the name “Sin city.”Most shows are not appropriate for younger visitors. However, this should not deter you from vacationing in Las Vegas, as there are actually many activities and attractions that are appropriate for children.

Animal attractions
Children and adults alike will enjoy the mixture of animal attractions throughout Las Vegas. Many animal attractions have little to no cost at all.


Mandalay Bay Shark Reef Aquarium
One of the most beautiful and exclusive animal attraction is the Mandalay Bay Shark Reef Aquarium, located inside of the Mandalay Bay hotel-casino. At a fee of only $16.95 for adults and $10.95 for children ages 5-12, this is not only a very affordable attraction but it remains to be an absolute unrivaled attraction for the entire family to enjoy. For younger children, this Aquarium will capture their attention for several hours. The reef and aquarium house more than 1,200 distinct species of sharks and fish, along with reptiles and eels and other invertebrate. The newest member of the aquarium is an eight (8) foot long komodo dragon. The Aquarium and reef contain nearly two (2) million gallons of water and provides hours of pleasing entertainment and enjoyment.

Caesars Palace: Atlantis Aquarium

Another popular attraction which is pleasing and exciting for younger children, is the 50,000 gallon saltwater Atlantis Aquarium located at the forum shops of Caesars’’ palace. Visitors can witness a live dive feed twice daily at 1:15 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. Dive feeding shows are free. More than 100 species of fish are contained inside the Atlantis Aquarium, including sharks and rays.


Las Vegas zoo
The Southern Nevada Zoological-Botanical Park offers an alternative to the many casino and hotel animal exhibits. Being the only zoo in Las Vegas, the Las Vegas zoo (also known as The Southern Nevada Zoological-Botanical Park) presents its visitors with a substantial assortment of endangered wild cats, various exotic birds, apes, chimpanzees and various reptiles or other animals livening in the ‘wild’ and natural setting of the zoo. Children will certainly be thrilled to see these special animals in their natural habitat.

The Grand Canyon West Rim
The Grand Canyon West Rim Tour with both Helicopter and Boat tour is on the top of the list for activities for children. This tour brings tourists up in the air and over the Grand Canyon. Then it slowly descends to the Canyon floor. From there, visitors will take a ride in a pontoon boat down the Colorado River. After this spectacular double tour of the Canyon, visitors will board a shuttle bus and visit the Hualapai Indian Village.

The Grand Canyon Helicopter and Ranch Adventure

The Grand Canyon Helicopter and Ranch Adventure is considered to be the number one activity for children in Las Vegas. Similar to The Grand Canyon West Rim Tour children get to ride a helicopter across the amazing Grand Canyon, and then they will ride in an actual horse-drawn wagon and share some time with ‘real’ cowboys at the Grand Canyon West Ranch. They can participate in some of the Grand Canyon West ranch activities such as horse-riding. It is certainly an unforgettable tour that will leave them begging for more.

Adventuredome is an enormous indoor amusement park. CANOEING

Canoeing on the Colorado, Black Canyon Hot Springs
Canoeing on the Black Hot Springs requires a permit to start at the base of the Hoover dam. But after launching from the base of the dam canoers will continue to paddle along 11 miles until they reach Willow Beach. Along the route are hot springs and naturally created hot sauna springs.

The Lion King

The Lion King stage performance replaced ‘Mamma Mia’, which appeared at the Mandalay Bay Theatre until May 2009.Mamma Mia was the longest Broadway musical in Las Vegas history. The Lion King stage production will thrill children and adults alike, with the original songs performed from Disney’s’ The Lion King movie. Some new songs were added in order to entertain adults. But any child who has seen the movie will really enjoy hearing their favorite Lion King songs performed live on stage.
To recreate some of the animal characters for the stage show, costume perfection had to reach new limits, adding some performers walking on stilts to create some of the larger animals, also adding some life-size puppets to create more authentic animal movements.
Guests are recommended to purchase tickets to The Lion King well in advance, as the show sells out quickly, as do most Las Vegas shows.
